Summary
Under general supervision of the Principal and/or Athletic Director, the Coach is responsible for coaching or advising students in a specified athletic or non‑athletic Extended Day Duty Activity. The incumbent must maintain a high standard of sound coaching practices and implement a program of injury prevention and safety precaution.
Statement of WorkUnder general supervision of the Principal and/or Athletic Director, the Coach is responsible for coaching or advising students in a specified athletic or non‑athletic Extended Day Duty Activity, requiring a high standard of sound and acceptable coaching practices. The incumbent adheres to a highly efficient and technically sound program of injury prevention and safety precaution.
Exemplary Duties / Responsibilities- Develops rapport with students and provides sound leadership; exemplifies sportsmanship; applies discipline fairly and positively according to procedures; responsible for students’ health and welfare.
- Maintains cooperation and communication with the Principal/Director and other Extended Day Duty personnel; keeps them informed about program, trips, games, etc.
- Develops a sound system for accountability, upkeep, and protection of equipment.
- Builds positive public relations within the school and community.
- Attends contests and practice sessions.
- Completes appropriate reports evaluating the activity and recommends improvements.
Required:
Any combination of education and experience that can likely provide the required knowledge and skills.
- Equivalent to a high school diploma; preferably teachers under contract with Washoe County School District.
- Some experience participating in and/or functioning as a coach/advisor in this particular activity.
Knowledge of rules, theory, and regulations relating to the specific activity, including rule changes.
Skill at:
Providing leadership and developing rapport with students; constructing well‑organized practices and contests; communicating verbally and in writing; supervising students; teaching good sportsmanship.
Lic నగanes: A valid Nevada Teaching Certificate is desirable; a CPR certificate is required for coaches/advisors involved in an athletic activity. CO
Special ConsiderationsIncumbents must be willing and able to work on weekends and at various times of the day.
CompensationThis position is not a contracted position and compensation is based on a stipend according to the "Extended Day Duty Scale" negotiated with the Washoe County Teachers Association.
