Hours Per Day: Varies, 4 to 7 hours per day
Days Per Week: M - F
Pay Rate: $30.60
Benefits: After working 630 hours in a school year, substitutes are eligible for benefits through the Washington State School Employee Benefits Board (SEBB) for the remainder of the year.
Depending on the position, the substitute para educator may:
- Supervise and monitor student behavior during recess and in the lunch room.
- Assist in clerical tasks as requested by the classroom teacher.
- Assist classroom teachers as needed.
- Maintain library circulation during lunch hours and assist librarians as required.
- Work one-on-one or in small group situations, with instructions from classroom teacher.
- Assist classroom teachers with students under the direction of the self-contained special education teacher.
- Substitute Para educator Applicants: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent to hold or be eligible for this role.
- Substitute Office Support/Clerical Substitutes: Applicants are not required to hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
- All substitute applicants must have two professional references returned online (one from a current or recent supervisor and the other from a colleague/friend) along with the completed application for review by Human Resources.
- Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent or successful pass of ETS Parapro Assessment Test. This document must be provided prior to starting employment.
- No experience or training required.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Flexibility working with staff members in a variety of locations.
- Prefer candidates who are willing to work with students with special needs.
- Demonstrated promptness and reliability.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound, independent judgment, including appropriate handling of confidential matters.
- Ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, and the general public.
- Culturally competent; ability to effectively work with diverse populations.
- References are required (1 supervisor and 1 colleague).
