Salary range and level:
This range may include multiple career levels and will be narrowed during the interview process based on experience, qualifications, location, and internal equity.

• Assess, guide, direct, and facilitate workflow on the unit. Recognize when the charge nurse should assume a patient assignment and take that role.
• Make staff assignments reflecting patient acuity, continuity of care, staff competency, and admit/transfer/discharge activity.
• Mentor staff, float, and agency personnel regarding unit/hospital policies, procedures/standards, and goals; integrate new staff into the unit culture.
• Function as a leader and role model; act as a clinical resource for unit staff and teach safe use of patient care equipment.
• Identify resource RN for LPN, PCA, and MST as necessary.
• Monitor and evaluate nursing care for each patient through observation, consultation, and rounds.
• Assess unit/environmental safety and address deficiencies; maintain awareness of Joint Commission standards and practice acts; monitor documentation and compliance.
• Provide excellent customer service; respond to patient and family concerns/complaints; report significant events and activate the chain of command as needed.
• Contribute to performance appraisals by documenting feedback and communicating concerns to management; ensure adequate coverage for breaks and adjust staffing for subsequent shifts using clinical judgment.
• Maintain competencies for direct patient care and team leadership; collaborate with bed placement and clinical resources to expedite placement.

• BSN preferred; current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in Washington.
• Successful completion of a graduate nurse residency program orientation or six months of RN experience.
• AHA BLS for healthcare providers required.
• Preferred for advancement to Charge Nurse: BSN; two years of clinical nursing/leadership experience; unit-specific prerequisites (see addendum).
• General qualifications: leadership, clinical judgment, communication skills, adherence to professional appearance, compassionate service, ability to work with diverse populations, and proficiency in electronic documentation and information access.
• Must meet physical demands: safe patient handling, lifting, stooping, reaching, standing for extended periods, and color/vision/hearing requirements as described in job posting.

Minimum experience expectations vary by role (e.g., Critical Care, ED, or PACU experience preferred).
