Job OverviewUnder general direction by the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) utilizes the nursing process to prescribe, prioritize, delegate, and provide safe, therapeutic allocation of nursing resources to patients/families. The ANM makes independent judgments, decisions, and acts regarding a wide range of routine and complex staffing and unit workflow issues. The ANM collaborates with appropriate disciplines to coordinate continuity of patient care from admission through discharge in support of the medical and nursing plans of care.
Responsibilities- Provide leadership for unit and departmental activities that promote delivery of quality nursing care.
- Model a culture of service excellence with patients as the central focus.
- Perform effective problem solving and communication.
- Exercise fiscal responsibility and accountability for unit performance.
- Support the Unit Management Team in ensuring strong workflow processes and infrastructures.
- Assist in delivering effective staffing schedules considering staff experience, skill mix, preference, and core matrix.
- Manage efficient and effective timesheet/payroll processes.
- Communicate timely clinical problem solving and issues at all levels.
- Facilitate interdisciplinary and interdepartmental communication using TeamSTEPPS methodology.
- Integrate new technology and organizational initiatives into practice.
- Manage staff practice and professional behaviors using Just Culture methodology.
- Evaluate and develop staff competency, orientation, and ongoing education.
- Act as Master Preceptor, train and mentor preceptors, and evaluate effectiveness.
- Participate in interviewing and recommending candidates for hire.
- Serve as resource for CEU interpretation and guidance.
- Promote and support continuing education and professional development.
- Provide EPIC unit super‑user support and education.
- Consult on quality and safety initiatives and participate in policy development.
- Mentor teamwork, resolve conflicts, and promote a healthy work environment.
- Licensed to practice Registered Nursing in the state of Washington.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
- Minimum three years of professional nursing experience, including education/preceptorship or charge nurse responsibilities.
- Proficient in EPIC.
- Nursing certification eligible.
- TeamSTEPPS Master Trainer certification preferred.
- Capable of comprehending, executing, and acting within scope of practice.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Effective interpersonal skills with a diverse population.
- Ability to set priorities, produce accurate work, and deliver quality patient care.
- Strong collaboration and leadership skills.
- Flexible, adaptable, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Proficient with electronic documentation, Microsoft Office, email, and computer skills.
- Self‑directed pursuit of continuing education.
Requires full range of body motion, manual dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, standing and walking for extensive periods, lifting and carrying items up to 40 lbs in emergencies, normal vision and hearing, effective oral/written communication, adaptability to changing conditions, exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids common to the clinical environment.
