Job DescriptionVALLEY MEDICAL CENTER
This position is responsible for providing direct patient wound care and serving as a consultant to the wound care interdisciplinary team, nursing staff, and providers regarding wound and skin services. The role includes education of patients, families, and staff, and collaboration with educators to maintain and enhance clinical staff competency in wound care.
Prerequisites- Licensed RN in the State of Washington – required
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing – preferred
- Minimum two years of wound and skin care experience – preferred
- National certification as a wound and skin nurse specialist within one year of hire (CWOCN or CWON) – preferred
- Current BLS certification by the American Heart Association – required
- Proficiency with word processing, graphics, database programs, and email
- Excellent communication and training skills
- Strong oral and written communication in English
- Knowledge of billing and coding requirements under hospital, state, and federal regulations
- Documenting in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
- Knowledge of adult learning principles, quality improvement processes, and evidence‑based practice
- Experience in nursing leadership and staff consultation
- Skill in collaborative, multidisciplinary teamwork and managing multiple priorities with deadlines
- Serve as consultant to wound ARNP, nursing staff, and providers regarding wound and skin services
- Provide education to staff, patients, and families
- Collaborate with wound ARNP to deliver direct patient care services within the specialty
- Participate in routine patient care rounds
- Maintain clinical competence through certification, continuing education, and performance
- Maintain a calm, efficient, and professional demeanor; display tact and positivity in all interactions
- Act as an expert in assessing, planning, evaluating, and revising care plans for patients with skin/wound problems
- Work with educators to keep clinical staff competency high in wound care
- Lead equipment and supply education and training for staff
- Facilitate learning experiences for student nurses and others
- Contribute to evidence‑based policy, procedure, and protocol development specific to wound care
- Promote national practice standards from recognized specialty organizations
- Use the chain of command appropriately and communicate updates to referring physicians/LIPs in the community
- Apply evidence‑based practice to broaden clinical scope and support practice changes within the hospital
- Participate in evaluation of new products and devices for the specialty
- Serve on appropriate committees and advisory boards at VMC and in the community
- Develop new programs and initiatives to improve patient care
- Join quality teams related to the specialty
- Pursue continuing education for professional growth
- Contribute to educational services and programs in response to identified needs
- Monitor and manage resource use related to wound care, monitoring trends in resource use
- Perform other duties as assigned
