Overview
The Licensed Practical Nurse, under the direct supervision of the Birth Center Charge Nurses, Assistant Nurse Manager and Nurse Manager, will assist in providing safe and effective nursing care as assigned and qualified to perform in the Birth Center. In collaboration with staff RNs, providing direct patient care, cleaning and maintaining equipment and environment, ordering/stocking supplies in assigned areas and some patient transport are components of the position.
The position requires an understanding of the Birth Center's policies and procedures, state and federal regulations and guidelines to assist with the appropriate provision of services. Specific skills also include ability to communicate with the patient, healthcare team, caregivers, families and volunteer supervision as directed by the Providers. The Licensed Practical Nurse may assist staff with the implementation of a new program, quality improvement tasks and may assist with supervision of volunteers with specific tasks as directed by providers.
- In collaboration with staff RNs, provide direct patient care, clean and maintain equipment and environment, and assist with stocking supplies in assigned areas.
- Assist in patient transport as needed and directed by providers.
- Assist with implementation of new programs and quality improvement tasks as directed.
- Assist with supervision of volunteers with specific tasks as directed by providers.
- Complete documentation during shift as close to real time as practical for all patients and follow policies for all patient care.
- Participate in emergency management and assist the Birth Center team with emergency preparedness and returning operations to normal after events.
- Follow infection control policies and procedures for the department and equipment.
- Communicate effectively with care team regarding patient plan of care and changes in patient condition.
- Provide patient education materials and appropriate follow-up information as directed in the plan of care.
- Current Washington State License as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Successful completion of the pre-hire Work Steps evaluation for LPNs.
- Current American Heart Association CPR/BLS for Healthcare Providers.

Capable of comprehending, executing, and acting within the scope of practice of the LPN; effective communication in English; neat, professional appearance; strong interpersonal skills; ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines; ability to communicate with providers regarding patient care plans. - Unique physical/mental demands, environment, and working conditions:
Follow Safe Patient Handling policies; standing, sitting, crouching, bending and walking for extended periods; ability to lift/carry 40 lbs.
