Overview
The City of Renton's Public Works Airport department is recruiting to fill an Airport Operations Specialist vacancy at the Renton Municipal Airport.
Key ResponsibilitiesKey responsibilities include maintaining airport facilities accordance with established standards, inspecting work progress to ensure safety and compliance with project specifications, and analyzing operational or production issues to develop effective solutions. The role also involves interpreting technical documents and specifications to determine requirements and plan procedures. Strong communication skills are essential for successful collaboration and coordination.

- Coordinate and perform inspections of runways, taxiways, aprons, ramps, fueling area and hangar in accordance with PART 139.
- Conduct Airport perimeter inspections in accordance with Federal security regulations (TSR 1540).
- Publish, monitor, and update Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) to the National Airspace System.
- Perform wildlife management activities, including dispersal; maintain records and documents provided to USDA specialist.
- Respond to airfield emergencies as Airport Point of Contact; secure crash sites and assist management in inter-agency coordination and notification of emergency events.
- Identify, log, report fuel/oil spills, and take necessary notification and corrective actions.
- Coordinate landscape maintenance and vegetation management including mowing, within the Airport Operations area.
- Provide customer service to all Airport tenants; educate tenants on Minimum Standards, Rules and Regulations and report violations. Take corrective actions when requested.
- Lead Ground Vehicle Operations and Badging classroom training for tenants, users, and employees. Co-manage the security-badging program; initiate corrective actions for violations.
- Monitor weather conditions and prepare/respond with appropriate aviation safety measures. Perform snow removal/winter operations using but not limited to airport sweeper, blower, plows, shovels, deicing trailer, and friction measurement unit.
- Coordinate access and provide escort for contractors as necessary; assist with maintenance activities as needed.
- Contribute to an environment of teamwork and respect.
- Foster a culture of equity and inclusion by recognizing the diverse needs and perspectives of groups and individuals.
- Remain current with relevant technological advancements as it relates to field.
- Participate in and help provide cross-training in processes as directed by management to ensure a well-rounded team for coverage purposes.
- Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- May be assigned to support City priorities during emergencies.
- Associate's degree in Aviation related field.
- Minimum 2 years of airport operations, airport maintenance, or air traffic control experience.
- Or 4 years of relevant education and experience.
- AAAE, C.M. or A.C.E., ability to obtain within one year of employment.
- Valid Drivers' License.
- Successful passing of a required driving record check.
- Successful passing of a required background check.
- Drive to offsite locations to perform essential functions.
- Move throughout City facilities and buildings.
- Operate a computer and other office equipment.
- Communicate with City employees and residents.
- Lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Lift heavy objects in awkward and confined spaces, using proper lifting and rigging techniques.
- Climb and work from ladders, climb stairs.
- Bending, stretching, and standing for extended periods.
- Work is performed in an office environment and outdoors in all weather conditions.
- May be required to participate in a standby or on-call rotation.
- Exposure to high voltage wires, hazardous materials, heights, and noise from equipment.
- Noise level out in the field is moderately loud.
- Noise level in the office is moderately quiet.
- Work evening and/or weekend hours as needed.
