Overview

The rapid growth of AI and digitalization is driving demand for data centers that require large, reliable energy sources. In response, the Renewables & Clean Power (R&CP) team has signed an early‑works contract to build one of the largest gas‑fired power generation facilities in the U.S. The project is large and complex, and the team is helping the customer progress from early development to full EPC delivery next year.

Job Summary

As the Lead Cost Engineer you will estimate, analyze and control costs for projects with significant non‑routine requirements or high technical difficulty. You will prepare cost studies, review cost trends, and develop and implement project cost‑control requirements, providing innovative solutions to cost‑engineering challenges.

Major Responsibilities
  • Cost estimating, analysis, and control for complex projects
  • Provide innovative solutions to cost‑engineering challenges
  • Develop and implement cost‑control requirements in accordance with Bechtel and client contractual requirements, objectives, and procedures
  • Ensure work is completed on schedule, supporting project organizational and administrative activities
  • Prepare cost studies using historical data, statistical analysis, and cost and quantity comparisons
  • Review identified cost trends for cost effectiveness and suggest alternatives when appropriate
  • Maintain open communication with other organizations to support cost‑engineering analysis and control
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 10‑13 years of relevant experience, or 14‑17 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Expertise in managing cost engineering functions – estimation, control, and analysis, both on‑site and in the office, with the ability to establish comprehensive criteria for Project Controls activities
  • Advanced statistical knowledge, including regression analysis, variance estimation, and correlation, and ability to apply statistical theory to real‑world scenarios
  • Leadership, personnel administration, and training for both technical and non‑technical teams
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with a proven record of presenting cost engineering information to management and clients
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve complex problems
  • Advanced understanding of engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, and start‑up work processes as executed by Bechtel, supported by specialized instruction and practical industry experience
  • Current knowledge of industry trends and technical developments
