Senior Mechanical Engineer (Dry) / HVAC Engineer – Reston, VA
Job SummaryIn this role, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project’s mechanical aspects. You will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s mechanical aspects are met. The position is designated as part‑time telework per our global telework policy;
it may require at least three days of in‑person attendance per week at the assigned office or project.

Major Responsibilities- Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering work in mechanical discipline in a project or staff group.
- Perform work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include complex features such as resolving conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and/or difficult coordination requirements.
- Use Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
- Plan, coordinate, or prepare equipment or work specifications, material requisition, technical bid evaluations, and award recommendations.
- Coordinate engineering efforts in assigned areas between specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers, and contractors.
- Assume a lead technical role over other engineers or project subgroups for completing specific tasks as directed.
- Communicate complex technical issues and recommend solutions to supervisor and/or project management.
- Support function initiatives of developing Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), Bechtel design guides, appropriate Bechtel Standard Computer Applications (BSAPs), and administrative practices.
- Mentor designers and drafters by providing appropriate on‑the‑job training for their professional development.

Requires a bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 10–13 years of relevant experience or 14–17 years of relevant work experience. - Minimum Education:

- Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent from an accredited university or college (or international equivalent), with minimum 10 (ten) years of dry systems experience.
- In‑depth knowledge of equipment packages such as Air Handling Systems, Air Condensing units, Variable Air Volume Units, and Cleanroom Recirculation Air and Exhaust Systems.
- Good working knowledge of International standards for clean rooms and associated controlled environments (ISO 14644‑1 through 14), IEST standards (RP‑CC001, 002, 006, 007, 012, 021, 034) for Clean rooms, ASHRAE, SMACNA, and International Mechanical Code (IMC) standards for HVAC and Air Handling Units.
- Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, plant layout, materials, and computers for preparation of analyses and development of project deliverables within the discipline.
- Thorough knowledge of discipline engineering techniques, the design of engineered systems, and engineering and design calculations.
- Thorough understanding of the roles played by other departments on projects, including construction practices and the economics involved.
- Knowledge of precedents in the discipline and of principles and practices of related disciplines.
- Able to troubleshoot issues in a field or job site setting confidently, and to provide instruction on how to resolve issues identified.
- Demonstrated ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.
