Bechtel is the licensing, engineering, procurement, and construction partner on Terra Power’s Natrium team. Terra Power, a leading advanced generation technology company founded by former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates, will deploy a 345 MWe sodium fast reactor (SFR) called Natrium. The plant will also feature an innovative molten salt energy storage system. With the reactor and energy storage combined, it can produce more than 500 MWe of power.
Job SummaryIn this role, you will plan, develop, and review electrical engineering design work, produce drawings and documentation, and prepare design estimates for a project. You will coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, and review key electrical drawings, calculations, and bid summaries. You will solve complex technical issues and ensure electrical designs comply with all regulations and standards.
Major Responsibilities- Electrical Physical Design (including circuit and raceway).
- Raceway design, equipment location and layout, C&R schedule input and updates, conduit, and above ground raceway design.
- Model equipment and commodities used in electrical design.
- Produce drawings and documentation according to design scope, including lighting, communications, grounding layout, grounding calculations, and lightning protection systems.
- Ensure electrical system designs comply with applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.
- Interface with construction and subcontractors as needed.
- Use Bechtel and industry-proven concepts and procedures in independent creative design.
- Extract applicable 3‑D model data onto 2‑D sheets, annotate, and prepare drawings for construction.
- Perform calculations with AGI 32 for lighting layouts and ETAP for ground grid layouts.
- Develop material specifications using Specs Intact.
- AA/AS or certificate in Engineering/CAD with 3–4 years of experience, or 5–6 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
- Must have the legal right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.
- Must be able to complete a pre‑employment drug screen and background check.
- Proficient experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Extensive knowledge and application of NEC code and ANSI/IEEE Standards.
- Experience in nuclear power plant design.
- Proven 2‑D CADD and 3‑D skills.
- Experience with an electronic cable management system (e.g., SETROUTE) and ability to input and correct database entries.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work well with others and within a team.
- Ability to collaborate with other disciplines.
- Ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Hands‑on experience or coursework using a 3‑D electrical model design platform and 2‑D design.
- Previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience.
