This Database Administrator position is located in Northern Virginia with flexible core hours.
The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for implementing, modifying, and deploying software affecting mission-critical networks/systems, as well as determining ways to organize and store data. The DBA will identify user requirements, set up computer databases, test, and coordinate modifications to the computer database systems. The DBA ensures the performance of the system, understands the platform on which the database runs, and adds new users to the system.
Finally, the DBA plans and coordinates security measures and has knowledge of data integrity, backup systems, and database security.
Duties:
This Database Administrator performs the following core functions:
- Perform server and storage capacity management and planning for the most complex and critical systems
- Recommend and implement process and tool improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of change management and configuration management processes
- Perform server performance tuning
- Utilize system software to monitor system file performance; manage system data to maintain efficiencies
- Study system requirements to determine proper server installation methods and procedures
- Provide technical support in evaluating object names, data elements, and other objects
- Ensure proposed object definitions are clear, concise, technically correct, and represent singular concepts
- Answer users' inquiries regarding software and hardware operation to resolve problems
- Enter commands and observe system functioning to verify correct operations and detect errors
- Install and perform minor repairs to hardware, software, and peripherals, following specifications
- Consult with management and users to establish system requirements or modifications
- Conduct diagnostics to investigate and resolve problems and provide technical support
- Plan and test capacity requirements
- Inspect equipment and prepare for delivery to users
- Perform other duties as assigned by project management
Required Qualifications:
- Active Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI with poly
- Bachelor's degree preferred in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or a related technical discipline
- No degree + 7 years relevant experience
- Associate's degree + 5 years relevant experience
- Bachelor's degree + 3 years relevant experience
Minimum of three (3) years of experience specific to the skill, capable of delivering capabilities related to the particular skill, language, system, or technology. Experience with Oracle, including Oracle Administration and system maintenance on Windows, is required.
Desired Qualifications:
- Active TS/SCI with poly, with recent BI/Polygraph within the last five years
- Experience with older Oracle versions, especially Oracle 11g Advanced Replication
- Experience with Backup Exec in virtual environments
