Program Manager - Healthcare

Location: Reston, VA – OFFSITE/REMOTE but need to be onsite 3‑4 times/month for team meetings

Role Type: Contract 12+ months – (long-term extensions and/or permanent conversion highly likely)

Experience
  • 10+ years of experience in program operations, program delivery, or enterprise-level project/program leadership.
  • 3+ years specifically in a program management capacity leading complex, cross-functional initiatives.
  • *** Healthcare commercial payor experience – highly preferred.
  • *** Experience delivering or implementing healthcare products – highly preferred, particularly products requiring significant updates or modifications to existing systems.
  • Prior experience working directly with executives, senior leadership, and enterprise stakeholders in high-visibility environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-track programs, manage interdependencies, and drive alignment across both business and technology teams.
  • Strong background working “in the trenches” with delivery teams—application, infrastructure, and cross-functional business units.
  • Proven success launching large-scale systems or platforms in complex enterprise environments.
  • Strong business acumen coupled with the ability to partner effectively with technical teams (coding/hands‑on engineering not required, but strong technical fluency is).
  • Complexity-driven environment experience: enterprise‑scale implementations, multi‑system integrations, and large stakeholder landscapes.
Education

Education Level: Bachelor's Degree

Education Details: Business Management or related field

Education:

In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.

Preferred: Master's degree

Licenses/Certifications
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) – Required
  • PgMP (Program Management Professional) – Preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Expert‑level ability to recognize, analyze, and solve complex operational and program-level problems.
  • Proficient with project planning, program life cycle development, and enterprise‑level coordination.
  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office and common PM tools.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication with demonstrated executive presence.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and guide project managers and cross‑functional contributors.
  • Strong ability to influence decision‑making, align stakeholders, and drive forward momentum across large organizations.
Purpose

The Sr. Program Manager oversees end‑to‑end delivery of internal and client‑facing initiatives—from initial planning and kickoff through launch, stabilization, and ongoing optimization. This role ensures program alignment across business, operations, and technology teams, identifies opportunities for process improvement, manages interdependencies across work streams, and drives the successful implementation of new or enhanced healthcare products and capabilities.

Essential Functions
  • 35% Coordinates with internal client and internal teams to launch, maintain, and enhance complex programs. Guides internal clients through key decisions and communicates and coordinates activities internally and across network of partners.
  • 20% Manages and updates Project Schedule, Issues/Action Items/Risks, Installation Checklist, and Shipping Register.
  • 20% Identifies and articulates new customer needs to the technology team.
  • 10% Manages all aspects of implementation including ordering applicable equipment, overseeing installation, assisting with and supporting of account creation, managing communications, and reconciling inventory upon completion.
  • 10% Ensures and drives deliverables to completion per the implementation schedule.
  • 5% Conducts training for customers.
