Piper Companies is seeking a Lead Azure Cloud Engineer to join a high-impact Enterprise Technology team supporting a global hybrid cloud environment. This is a strategic, client-facing engineering role based in a on-site capacity in Reston, VA. The position focuses on cloud architecture, infrastructure automation, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver secure, scalable, and resilient Azure solutions.
Responsibilities of the Lead Azure Cloud Engineer include:- Serve as an Azure SME for enterprise stakeholders, providing hands-on support across IaaS, PaaS, and Serverless environments.
- Lead cloud infrastructure design, implementation, and optimization efforts across production and development environments.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, Bicep, and ARM templates to automate deployments and enforce consistency.
- Collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to architect hybrid solutions integrating on-premises and cloud resources.
- Monitor and analyze Azure environments to ensure performance, availability, and cost efficiency.
- Investigate and resolve complex infrastructure issues escalated from support teams or identified during design reviews.
- Conduct architecture workshops and technical deep-dives with internal teams to shape secure and sustainable cloud strategies.
- Stay current with emerging Azure technologies and best practices to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation including architecture diagrams, design specifications, and operational procedures.
- Support integration of M365, Intune, PP&C, UEM, and IAM platforms into the broader cloud ecosystem.
- 4+ years of experience in cloud engineering roles with a focus on Azure infrastructure.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Strong hands-on experience with Azure services including Virtual Networks, App Services, Azure Functions, and Azure Resource Manager.
- Deep understanding of Azure security and compliance frameworks (e.g., Azure Security Center, Azure Policy).
- Proven expertise in IaC tools such as Terraform, Bicep, and ARM templates.
- Experience with hybrid cloud deployments and integration of on-premises systems.
- Familiarity with M365, Intune, PP&C, UEM, and IAM platforms is a strong plus.
- Must hold Azure certifications (minimum: Azure Administrator).
- Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to lead technical discussions and present solutions to stakeholders.
- Willingness to work on-site 2–3 times per week in Alexandria, VA.
- Salary Range: $160,000 - $175,000
