Overview
Peraton is seeking a highly capable and proactive Senior Database Administrator to support our Health and Human Services - Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG) contract. This role is a critical part of contract mission delivery, ensuring the stability, integrity, and performance of enterprise database systems that directly enable HHS-OIG operations across the country. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in SQL Server administration, performance tuning, high availability architecture, and backup and recovery practices.
The DBA will also support infrastructure and server operations, contribute to system automation, and collaborate closely with application, development, and engineering teams. The Database Administrator will play a key role in maintaining the reliability, scalability, and security of platforms operating under federal standards and Peraton s operational framework.
- Deliver and maintain the standard HHS-OIG SQL Server infrastructure database solution to support COTS applications, ensuring consistent configuration, availability, and backup practices.
- Implement enterprise backup, recovery, and high-availability strategies aligned with federal and OIG standards.
- Administer, optimize, and maintain SQL Server environments (2016+) supporting a wide range of OIG mission systems.
- Monitor performance, tune queries, and manage indexes, statistics, and configurations to achieve operational efficiency.
- Support data integration workflows and automation tasks.
- Perform Windows Server-based system administration, including patching, server configuration, and security hardening.
- Automate routine tasks and system processes using Power Shell or other scripting tools.
- Coordinate with application owners and DSD DB Admins for systems that use alternate database platforms (e.g., Oracle).
- Work closely with development, engineering, and infrastructure teams to support deployments, upgrades, and environment enhancements.
- Maintain security controls, audit settings, and access policies in accordance with HHS-OIG and Peraton cybersecurity requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production and non-production database and server issues within the OIG ecosystem.
- Develop and maintain documentation covering configurations, data flows, availability designs, and operating procedures.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA;
Minimum of 6 years with MS/MA;
Minimum of 3 years with PhD - Strong proficiency in database design, and query optimization.
- Solid understanding of Windows Server administration and system troubleshooting.
- SQL Server DBA experience.
- Proficiency in Power Shell or similar scripting for automation.
- Experience with database backup tools, monitoring systems, and disaster recovery planning.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to troubleshoot complex database and system issues.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and collaborative skills supporting federal program stakeholders.
- US Citizenship is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Linux
- Exposure to Dev Ops, CI/CD pipelines, or infrastructure automation.

$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
