As a member of the software engineering division, you will assist in defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, debugging or designing of software applications or operating systems. Provide technical leadership to other software developers. Specify, design and implement modest changes to existing software architecture to meet changing needs.

Duties and tasks are varied and complex needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 8 years of software engineering or related experience.

Are you interested in building large‑scale distributed infrastructure for the cloud? Oracle’s Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) team is building new Infrastructure‑as‑a‑Service technologies that operate at a large scale in a broadly distributed multi‑tenant cloud environment. Our customers run their businesses on our cloud, and our mission is to provide them with best‑in‑class, foundational cloud infrastructure services. The Virtual Networking Team builds the highly customizable Virtual Cloud Networks (VCN) and connectivity services offering predictable and consistent performance, isolation, and availability.

We are a team that builds and maintains the OCI Software‑Defined Network (SDN) stack. We are looking for hands‑on engineers with expertise and passion in solving difficult problems in high‑availability, virtualized networks, and network packet processing. Principal engineers are expected to lead small teams and will have significant technical and business impacts. Join our team and help us build a state‑of‑the‑art SDN network.

You are an expert coder with networking and embedded system experience. You value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and are excited to learn.

• 4+ years distributed cloud engineering experience in a software development environment
• Experience developing service‑oriented architectures and web services security solutions
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information in a clear, concise manner to all audiences
• Excellent in making high impact judgement calls during a large scale operational events
• Experience working with various Network Virtualization technologies
• Strong knowledge of Linux networking constructs
• Software‑based packet forwarding experience
• Experience working with fast and large scale read/write intensive distributed systems
• Understand fundamental network protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, etc
• Proficient at programming in C++ and Python
• Proficient with Linux and experienced with shell scripting languages
• Bachelor’s in computer science and engineering or related fields

• Deep understanding of object‑oriented design and SDK development, specifically within a cloud environment
• Familiarity and understanding of distributed computing and cloud‑based platforms.
• Understanding of cross‑functional platform feature areas in cloud platforms.
• Master’s / PhD degree in Computer Science or related engineering fields
