Integrated Substance Misuse Service Healthcare Assistant

Job Summary

NHFT are recruiting for a Healthcare Assistant to work within Integrated Substance Misuse Service within HMP Ranby to deliver a comprehensive range of needs-based health care services to patients with substance misuse issues.

The Substance Misuse team is part of the integrated healthcare provision at HMP Ranby. This role works as part of the ISMS team to support patients and the wider healthcare team, ensuring safe working practice in a secure environment in accordance with the Prison Healthcare Standard, Prison Service rules and Standing Orders. The post holder works in close liaison with other disciplines within the prison setting and with external agencies to meet the holistic needs of the patients.

The role may involve working without direct supervision to support the safe prescribing of substance misuse medication such as methadone, espranor and long‑acting buprenorphine (Buvidal), in line with national guidelines, and undertaking delegated tasks such as BBV and urine drug testing, ECGs and reporting back to the Senior Practitioners, Nurses and Prescriber. The role also involves actively participating in the ongoing development of positive working relationships with officers and staff throughout the prison.

• Completed Care certificate.
• Able to conduct clinical assessments – completed clinical observations, wound care, phlebotomy, ECG – provide examples.
• Evidence of teamwork.
• Evidence of triage skills – provide examples.
• Evidence of autonomous working.
• Aware of medication management and completed medication rounds as a second checker.

• Substance Misuse Experience – provide examples.
• Aware of Orange guidelines – evidence of implementation.
• Completed RCGP Level 1 for Alcohol Dependence and Substance Misuse.
