Job overview

To provide leadership within the main Horticulture and Trade Skills environment at Rampton High Secure Hospital

To utilise specific Vocational qualifications namely Horticulture or a known trade qualification to provide a service for male and female patients experiencing mental ill health (to include Mental Illness, Personality Disorder and Learning Disability).

To be responsible for the health and safety of staff and patients within the Horticulture and Trade Skills environment.

Main duties of the job

The post is situated within the Forensic Care Group and located in Rampton High Secure Hospital.

The post holder will work with patients who present a risk to themselves and others and require treatment in a high secure setting. The post holder will supervise, instruct, and support patients in activities relating to their OT Vocational treatment programmes on and off wards and within the designated Horticulture and Trade skills area.

They will develop and deliver a needs led programme based on the individual patient’s Occupational Therapy goals. Take a lead role in the daily functions of the designated area of work. To include allocation of resources and compliance with Health and Safety and Security policy and procedures. They will take a lead on specific service developments specific to the work area and provide specialist knowledge regarding the workplace.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

Please note this post does not meet skill level required for a Skilled worker visa.

Successful applicants with no prior NHS experience would normally be placed at the bottom of the band in line with Agenda for Change. This salary is below the minimum salary required for sponsorship for a Skilled Worker/Health & Care visa. In these circumstances the Trust would not, therefore, be able to sponsor for a Skilled Worker/Health & Care visa.
