This is an excellent opportunity for an energetic and dynamic person with good communication skills to fulfil the Assistant Psychologist role within the Mental Health Service. Assistant Psychologists in this setting must have at least one year prior experience of working with offenders and/or patients with complex mental health difficulties.

The role is varied and involves supporting qualified clinical or forensic psychologists in completing assessments and delivering individual and group therapy. The post holders will have the opportunity to contribute to ongoing development of specialist treatment programmes as well as research and project delivery. MDT working is also an integral part of the role. Research, evaluation and writing for publication are actively supported;

ongoing professional development is encouraged and supervision considered a priority.

Clinical or Work Practice

To undertake individualised psychological assessments of patients including neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with patients, and others involved in the patient’s care, under the supervision of a qualified psychologist.

To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a patient’s problems, under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist.

To assist in the running of therapeutic groups.

To work with other staff to assess patients and review their care in preparation for multi-disciplinary reviews.

To assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all patients of the service, across all settings where care takes place.

To attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings.

Teaching, Training & Supervision
