About the Role
The PFD team at VS&Co is looking for an experienced Sr R&D Technical Project Manager with a proven track record for driving innovation and trends within the personal care space through raw materials and new technology platforms. This person is an outside‑the‑box thinker who thrives in a continuously evolving fast‑paced environment, passionate about innovation and trends, and capable of leading all technical aspects related to new technologies, raw materials, and fragrance oils in formulations.
The role reports to the Research and Development Manager.
- Work closely with suppliers to identify new raw materials and technology platforms with potential benefits for personal care applications.
- Understand the current portfolio and suggest innovative ingredients and textures to fulfill white space.
- Communicate and present technology and products to product development colleagues.
- Act as technical project manager and serve as liaison between product development and contract manufacturers.
- Work closely with fragrance houses and contract filler labs to advise on stability protocols, read results, and make suggestions to solve issues, ensuring formulas in development are robust and ready for commercialization.
- Ensure formulas are compatible with packaging components and advise fixes to fragrance or formulas as necessary.
- Assess project timelines and manage development communication with contract manufacturers and internal cross‑functional teams.
- Maintain all project development tools—PLM, project trackers, etc.
- Attend commercialization meetings to discuss project status and propose proactive solutions.
- Serve as primary technical liaison for day‑to‑day activities of commercialized programs.
- Make recommendations for risk mitigation and conduct risk assessments.
- Travel as required.
- 5‑8 years R&D experience with personal care or consumer product goods.
- Experience in personal care product formulation.
- Prior home fragrance experience is a plus.
- Ability to influence and interact with cross‑functional partners on technical matters and present professional presentations to a broad audience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Agile, organized, and able to prioritize.
- Proactive thinking and demonstrated problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal skills for building internal and external relationships.
- Prior leadership experience is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field required.
