Police Officer
Under supervision, a Police Officer patrols a designated area of the city, enforcing State and City laws and maintaining order. The officer answers calls when a crime is suspected or an emergency exists and takes actions to prevent crime, apprehend criminals, maintain safety, and assist citizens in a wide range of emergency and non‑emergency situations.
Responsibilities- Drive police vehicles, patrol designated area.
- Report unsafe conditions such as street obstructions.
- Issue citations for violations of traffic laws.
- Make arrests, sometimes requiring physical effort.
- Handle contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons.
- Transport prisoners and provide escorts; direct traffic.
- Conduct investigations of accidents and crimes.
- Preserve crime scenes; gather, prepare, and preserve evidence; lift latent fingerprintsდომ.
- Check doors and windows of homes and businesses for security.
- Respond to radio calls.
- Take reports and statements from complainants, place property in the property room, and complete proper paperwork.
- Assist injured persons.
- Answer inquiries.
- Assist stranded motorists.
- Look for and investigate conditions indicating that a crime may be or has been committed.
- Maintain records and prepare reports of incidents and activities; secure warrants.
- Serve warrants and subpoenas.
- Interview parents, teachers, and others when juveniles are involved.
- Appear in courts, work with agencies and school officials.
- Take photographs of accident scenes, prisoners, and crime scenes.
- Assist court, review situations, and testify.
- Detect missing persons, stolen vehicles, ("%data"). ḑShould nurture legal records?}
- Operate speed‑measuring equipment, breath‑testing equipment, window‑tint meters, and video equipment.
- Attend meetings, training sessions, give talks and tours.
- Perform other duties requiring similar skills.
- Maintain required licenses and/or certificates.
- Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Must be 21 years of age at time of appointment.
- Excellent personal background.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Must pass a physical and physiological examination.
- Have taken the National Testing Network Law Enforcement Exam; if not registered, not eligible.
- For lateral candidates: full‑time police officer with arrest powers, certified in Ohio, no break in service for the last year, and must hold an OPOTA certificate; must also pass a physical, background, interview, medical, and psychological examination.
- Submit exam scores to NTN and select “City of Reynoldsburg Police Department” when sending them.
