The primary goal is satisfying customer requirements of quality, quantity, and delivery in a safe manner while maximizing productivity. The Welder / Fitter I is responsible for all job activities required to support production processes. These activities include but are not limited to fitting/adjusting parts, tacking, and MIG welding steel. The employee is responsible for visually inspecting parts.

Other Responsibilities
  • Lays out, positions, and secures parts and fabricates material according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler
  • Tack-welds or welds components and projects
  • May use powered saws, torch, and hand plasma
  • Prepares and finishes workpiece, using portable grinder, or scraper
  • Welds components in all positions
  • Sets up welding equipment
  • Ensures welds meet standards and specifications
  • Performs precision layout tasks and precisely fits together structural parts and components
  • Reads engineered drawings and welding symbols
  • Performs shop mathematical calculations
  • Follows all plant safety guidelines, practices, and procedures; maintains a clean and safe work area
  • Uses personal protective equipment when required
  • Maintains regular attendance and reliable transportation
  • Performs other tasks as assigned

Prior manufacturing experience is highly preferred. Any technical or vocational education/training in relation to skills listed below is also desirable.

  • Must pass an AWS

    D.1.1 3G vertical metal core pulse transfer weld qualification
  • Must have intermediate blueprint reading knowledge
  • Knowledge of machine operation, cutting, sawing, drilling, and grinding parts is desirable
  • Ability to use welding tools
  • Forklifts and overhead crane experience preferred (in‑house training available)
  • Team player – must work well with others
  • Maintains a high sense of urgency to meet and exceed all production goals
  • Attentive to detail, watching for material defects and quality issues
  • Physically capable of standing, walking, bending, pushing, pulling, reaching, and twisting throughout shift
  • Capable of repeatedly lifting 25‑50 lbs.
  • Flexible to work overtime as needed, including weekends and/or holidays
  • Must pass a background check and pre‑employment drug test
Work Environment
  • Typical manufacturing environment with overhead cranes and forklifts
  • Overhead LED lights provide a bright workspace for safe work performance
  • Normal to manufacturing processes with air tools, grinders, and other tools; yearly audiometric testing provided
  • Non‑climate‑controlled facility: fans during summer, heating in winter
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in manufacturing/fabrication welding
Required Equipment
  • Steel toe shoes/boots
  • Basic tools
  • Gloves, jackets, and sleeves supplied (may use personal equipment)
