Pet Groomer Trainee

Overview

Pet Smart is hiring a Pet Groomer Trainee. Pet Stylist in Training engages with pet parents and their pets while providing positive experiences and best-in-class salon services. This role will receive training from our Professional Styling teams, learning proper grooming techniques, and upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. The position also shares responsibility for store cleanliness, recommending solutions for pet parents, and pet safety standards.

Pet Stylist in Training is responsible for engaging with pet parents and their pets while providing positive experiences and salon services. This role is obtained once the associate has successfully completed the Pet Smart Grooming Academy.

• Under supervision, perform full menu of bath, brush and grooming services and standalone services (e.g., nail trims, teeth brushing, sanitary services) in accordance with Pet Smart’s standards and procedures.
• Develop and display safe technical grooming skills that meet or exceed the company’s minimum expectations.
• Recommend additional health and wellness solutions for pets based on pet parents’ needs.
• Ensure a positive pet parent experience in person, over the phone, and at the sales register.
• Greet pet parents, answer questions, and assist with making salon reservations.
• Make appointment reminder calls, maintain client records, and consult with pet parents on services offered.
• Perform check-in and check-out procedures for grooming appointments, including relevant paperwork and rebooking.
• Promote salon sales to help achieve sales targets and productivity, and other relevant salon metrics.
• Recommend, inform, and sell merchandise and services.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions for all pets in the grooming area; perform daily maintenance and end-of-day cleaning per checklist.
• Take immediate action if a sick/injured pet is identified, including transport to a vet as needed.
• Assist in other departments as required and perform other duties as assigned.
• Participate in the culture of Belonging and Recognition.
• Follow all Company Policies and Procedures.

• Successful completion of Pet Smart’s Salon Academy training and safety certification program.
• Prior grooming experience preferred; may be asked to complete a technical exam.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
• Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.
• Flexibility in schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and safety awareness.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Standing, walking, ladder use, and manual dexterity; ability to reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and hear; depth perception required. Reasonable accommodations available.
• Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds regularly, up to 100+ pounds with team lift.
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet environments with pet hair, moderate to high noise levels, and live animals.
