Summary / ObjectiveUnder limited supervision, the service technician‑mechanic performs complex repair and maintenance of logging machines—specifically Harvester Heads—at customers’ job sites; performs related work as assigned.
Essential Functions- Installation of loose heads onto logging machines.
- Performs troubleshooting, inspections, and preventive maintenance of installed heads.
- Prepares and maintains records and reports for billing purposes.
- Technical capacity.
- Problem solving/analysis.
- Mechanical or operator background with logging equipment.
- Knowledge of a variety of track/rubber carriers.
- Forestry experience helpful.
Must have or be able to obtain a CDL license.
Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but may serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.
Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibration, outdoor weather elements, and occasionally extreme conditions. Noise level can be loud.
Physical DemandsRegular standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing. Frequently lift or move items over 50 pounds. Requires close, distance, color, peripheral and depth vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type / Expected Hours of WorkFull‑time, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
TravelRegular travel to and from customer work sites.
RequiredEducation and Experience
Two‑year degree in heavy equipment technician program or three years of experience/training in heavy equipment repair and maintenance shop, or a combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates ability to perform the duties of the position.
PreferredEducation and Experience
- Hydraulics and electrical components.
- Ability to read schematics.
- Experience with acetylene and electric arc welding.
- Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Write simple correspondence.
- Effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers and other employees.
- Speak English fluently.
