The Youth Sports & Leadership Coordinator is a passionate and mission-driven leader responsible for designing, implementing, and expanding high-quality youth sports programs that promote skill development, teamwork, and inclusion. This role prioritizes youth athletics while supporting teen leadership initiatives and serving as the YMCA School Liaison. The successful candidate will foster strong community partnerships, inspire young athletes, and create positive experiences for youth and teens across all programs.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in youth sports programming, coaching, or athletic administration.
  • Bachelor’s degree in sports management, recreation, youth development, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • Current or past YMCA experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire young athletes and supervise staff or volunteers.
  • Obtain YMCA Team Leader certificate within three years from date of hire.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience collaborating with schools or community partners.
  • CPR, First Aid, and Child Abuse Prevention certifications (or ability to obtain within 60 days).
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the service area and to conferences.
Essential Functions Youth Sports (Ages 2–18)
  • Plan all youth sports programs including flag football, basketball, soccer, T-ball, volleyball, and sports clinics with assistance of the Leadership Advancement Director.
  • Provide leadership and administrative oversight of the YMCA competitive gymnastics team, ensuring a positive and developmentally appropriate experience for all participants.
  • Coordinate recreational gymnastics programs and progression pathways.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteer coaches, gymnastics staff, and part-time sports personnel.
  • Manage program schedules, registration, communication, and equipment needs.
  • Promote skill development, sportsmanship, teamwork, and inclusion in a safe and fun environment.
  • Build and maintain strong school partnerships to promote youth sports participation and collaboration.
Teen Engagement (Grades 7–12)
  • Develop and grow teen programming including Youth in Government focused on leadership, service, wellness, and career readiness.
  • Oversee teen events and special initiatives like Teen Nights and service projects.
  • Chair the YMCA Teen Character Awards Committee, coordinating nominations and recognition of outstanding youth across the region.
  • Serve as a mentor and positive role model, building meaningful relationships with teens.
  • Create pathways for teen involvement through volunteering, internships, youth sports mentorship, and leadership development.
  • Serve as the YMCA’s primary liaison to local schools, ensuring alignment between YMCA programs and school needs.
  • Communicate regularly with school administrators, counselors, and educators to coordinate participation and outreach.
  • Represent the YMCA at school meetings, family nights, and community events to promote awareness and engagement.
  • Strengthen collaborations that enhance both YMCA programs and student outcomes.
Program Logistics & Operations
  • Oversee concessions operations at sports and teen events, including inventory, staffing, and financial tracking.
  • Coordinate facility and equipment rentals for youth and teen programs, ensuring clear communication with families and partner organizations.
  • Manage field trips for teen and sports programs, ensuring safety, educational value, and memorable experiences.
  • Assist with budgeting, supplies management, and maintaining program-related records.
