Job Overview
Applications are invited for the Emergency Department post at Glan Clwyd Hospital. This post involves ward duties and contributions to out‑of‑hours shifts in the Acute Medical Unit and the Emergency Department. The post holder will be supported in their professional development and will gain excellent clinical experience.
Key Responsibilities- Provide ward duties and contribute to out‑of‑hours shifts in the Acute Medical Unit and the Emergency Department.
- Work within a high‑volume department (~58,000 attendances per year) and provide timely and thorough patient care.
- Participate in trauma care as part of the ETC model and engage with the Trauma Network.
- Collaborate with consultants, SAS doctors, juniors and the nursing team, including Advanced Nurse Practitioners.
- Support teaching and research in partnership with Bangor University, where appropriate.

- No specialist exam required
- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment
- Evidence of achievement of Foundation competences in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Up to date and fit to practice safely
- Meets professional health requirements (in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice)
- Demonstrable written and spoken English adequate for medical communication, demonstrated by having completed medical training in English or passing IELTS
- Full employment history available
- Evidenced career progression consistent with personal circumstances
- Evidenced achievement and performance commensurate with period of training
- Minimum 12 months experience at FY1 and FY2 level
- Experience in emergency medicine, acute medicine or surgery
- Successful completion of one of the UK advanced life‑support courses (ALS, ATLS or APLS) or equivalent
- Understanding of clinical governance and risk management
- Appreciation of audit importance to the specialty
- Evidence of governance activity (e.g., presentations, incident reporting, complaint handling)
- Evidence of completed audit cycle
- Sound clinical knowledge and judgement, able to prioritise clinical needs
- Aptitude for practical skills, including manual dexterity
- Awareness of developing situations
- Functioning under pressure
- Initiative, flexibility and resilience to cope with setbacks and adapt to changing circumstances
- Awareness of own limitations and when to seek help
- Capacity to work cooperatively, demonstrate leadership when appropriate, and function in multidisciplinary teams
- Logical and lateral thinking to solve problems and make decisions
- Taking patients' perspectives and seeing them as people
- Clear written and spoken communication, adapting language as appropriate
- Organisation and prioritisation of work
- Punctuality, preparation and self‑discipline
- Understanding of information technology importance
