Sterile Services Supervisor

Job Overview

We are recruiting two Full‑Time Sterile Services Supervisors. These positions offer successful candidates the opportunity to work within a well‑established sterile services team at Glan Clwyd Hospital.

The Sterile Services Supervisors will have extensive knowledge of the ISO 13485:2016 standard, support the management team in ensuring staff conform to the departmental Quality Management System, hospital policy and procedures, and highlight any areas of concern. They will also assess, organise and plan the daily workflow to ensure maximum utilisation of resources, provide training to staff, and deputise for the Sterile Services Manager when needed.

Speaking Welsh is desirable but Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome.

• General management and supervision of the production team.
• Plan, organise and manage own workload and that of others.
• Supervise and coordinate staff within the department.
• Facilitate effective communication with staff and customers.
• Support technicians and oversee their development through performance reviews and appraisals.
• Resolve day‑to‑day problems and queries, and support more complex complaint investigations.
• Deputise in the absence of the Sterile Services Manager.
• Communicate production progress, changes, quality issues and health board news to the team.

• Decontamination Sciences (IDSc) Technical Certificate, or NVQ3 Decontamination, or equivalent level of Decontamination knowledge or experience.
• Completion of the Decontamination SSD Supervisors/Managers course (to NHS guidance).

• Experience in staff management.
• Ability to train staff.
• In‑depth knowledge of sterile services processes and procedures.
• Knowledge of work instructions and quality management systems.
• Experience in sterile services (preferred).
• Ability to develop skills quickly.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to assume delegated responsibilities within a multidisciplinary setting.
• Good organisational, time‑keeping and reliability.
• Capability to undertake internal rotation, on‑call, and contingency hours.
• Resilience and strong teamwork ethic.

• Desire to work toward recognised NVQs, preferably acceptable to IDSc standard.
• Desire to undertake management studies.
• Experience in sterile services.
• Ability to work in high‑pressure environments.
• Use of own initiative.
• Knowledge of risk in production environment.
• Understanding of general NHS issues.
• Flexible outlook and prioritisation skills.
