Position: Senior Radiographer – Advanced Practitioner- Treatment /CT

Job Overview

The North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre is seeking to recruit an HCPC-registered Therapeutic Radiographer to the post of Senior Radiographer – Advanced Practitioner
. The successful applicant will be committed to delivering high‑quality, patient‑focused care and to motivating and developing staff in a dynamic clinical environment. You will have the opportunity to influence and develop services within a collaborative team and must demonstrate adaptability and proven leadership skills. You will be responsible for the day‑to‑day clinical management of the area, including line management, supervision and staff development.

Applicants must demonstrate exceptional clinical standards and have extensive postgraduate experience in modern radiotherapy practice, supported by ongoing CPD. The department is equipped with four Varian Linear Accelerators (three True Beams and one Varian iX), a Gulmay Orthovoltage Unit, Canon CT Planning Scanner, Pro Soma, Eclipse TPS and Surface Guided Radiotherapy on all True Beams. A programme of machine replacement is imminent.

Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential. The post requires flexible working between 08:00 and 18:30, participation in the on‑call rota and the ability to work effectively in a busy environment. Welsh language skills are desirable.

Main duties of the job

Contribute to a consistently improving patient‑focused service as an advanced practitioner, demonstrating expert knowledge, complex decision making and clinical skills for an agreed individual expanded scope of practice. As and when required assume a senior role undertaking and assisting with radiotherapy treatments across modalities within Cancer Services, as appropriate to the level and scope of training, which may include undertaking emergency treatments out of hours.

Comply with statutory regulations relating to ionising radiation, BCUHB and Radiotherapy and Medical Physics Department policies and procedures. When required, undertake contractual hours, including on call over a seven‑day period, the pattern and duration of which will be compliant with the European Working Time Directive and BCUHB Rostering Guidelines. Supervise and/or teach registered and trainee health professionals within and external to radiotherapy ensuring compliance with BCUHB and radiotherapy and medical physics specific policies, protocols and working practices.

Participation in the development of a formal education programme and CPD for staff and provide professional leadership to radiographers undertaking a specialist role within the same clinical field.

Person specification Qualifications
  • BSc or equivalent in radiotherapy and oncology
  • MSc relevant to speciality, working towards or commitment to undertake relevant MSc study or evidence of study at Masters level or other appropriate postgraduate learning/qualification.
  • Full State registration (HCPC)
  • Evidence of leadership
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate qualification in Leadership and Management or equivalent management experience
Knowledge
