To perform a variety of advanced and complex professional accounting functions involved in compiling, preparing, and monitoring the city budget; to maintain fiscal controls and programs; to prepare financial reports and statements; and to perform a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
This is the advanced journey level class within the Accountant series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Accountant designation by the performance of the complexity of duties as assigned as well as supervisory authority. Employees at this level exercise independent judgment in the interpretation of procedures and regulations. Incumbents receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.
SUPERVISIONRECEIVED AND EXERCISED
- Receives direction from higher level management staff or designee.
- May exercise lead direction over subordinate staff and volunteers as needed.

Essential Functions- Operations, services and activities of a municipal accounting program.
- Principles, practices and terminology of general, fund and government accounting,
- Principles and procedures of financial program filing and record keeping.
- Principles and practices of financial research and report preparation.
- Principles and practices of municipal budget preparation and administration.
- Advanced mathematical principles.
- Principles and practices of governmental accounting, public finance and financial reporting.
- Recent developments, current literature and information related to municipal accounting and public finance.
- Modern office equipment including computers and supporting word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and ordinances.
- Perform advanced and complex professional level accounting duties.
- Coordinate municipal accounting and public finance programs.
- Train and provide technical lead support to staff.
- Analyze, post, balance and reconcile financial data ledgers and accounts.
- Maintain a variety of financial ledgers.
- Verify the accuracy of financial data and information.
- Ensure proper authorization and documentation for journaltransactions.
- Review and interpret financial reports and transactions.
- Prepare a variety of financial reports
- Maintain a detailed budget for assigned divisions and programs.
- Interpret and explain City policies and procedures.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
