Job Description
TITLE: Childcare Worker I (Part-time, hourly)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Child care education and experience preferred
- Additional experience in a preschool setting a plus
- Leadership qualities, outgoing and friendly, creative, and love for children
- Meets South Dakota State Department of Social Services standards
- Professional personal appearance appropriate to child care
- Ability to work as a team to provide quality child care services
- Must be able to liftup to 25 pounds
- National Career Readiness Certificate level Bronze or higher a plus
REPORTS TO: Educare Center Director, Director of Support Operations
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and implement developmentally-appropriate activities that promote intellectual social/emotional, and physical growth within a loving environment.
- Inform parents of activities.
- Work cooperatively with the entire day care staff to ensure that program objectives are met.
- Assist with the supervision and organization of the assigned room.
- Participate in in-service training sessions to improve knowledge and child-care skills to meet the continuing education requirements as determined by the Department of Social Services.
- Maintain confidentiality with all discussions and occurrences that involve a parent, child, student and/or an employee.
- Maintain infection control by sanitizing self, work, play and eating areas.
- Maintain accurate records of the children’s attendance.
- Maintain the ratio of children per teacher in the classroom and on the playground.
- Assess each child’s individual needs and attempts to fulfill them as needed, considering resources available.
- Promotes positive self-image in parents, children, students and staff.
- Assist in serving meals and snacks to the children.
- Maintain the arrangement, appearance, décor, and learning environment for the classroom to assure that the facility is clean, orderly and safe for children.
- Communicate pertinent information to immediate supervisor.
- Establish rapport with staff and works to be a “team player”.
- Maintain a professional attitude.
- Greet visitors and give tours when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Hourly, part-time employee with salary set by the Watertown School board. Benefits are not provided. Hours will vary throughout the year as determined by the Educare Director to maintain efficient staff to child ratios, not to exceed 30 hours per week.
