**** JOB SUMMARY
** The Certified Medical Assistant functions as an important member of the healthcare teams by providing basic clinical, clerical, and technical support to assist providers in planning for patients’ care, comfort, and safety. The individual performs in a manner consistent with Marshfield Clinic Health System’s (MCHS) mission, policies, and initiatives while maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire and one of the following:
* Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification awarded by the American Association or Medical Assistants (AAMA)
* Registered Medical Assistant registration from the American Medical Technologist (AMT)
* Registered Medical Assistant registry from the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
* Licensed Practical Nurse license in the state of Wisconsin or equivalent
* National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

** Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) at time of hire.

The Medical Assistant assists providers in planning for patients’ care, comfort, and safety, and performs in a manner consistent with Marshfield Clinic’s mission, policies, and initiatives while maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
** JOB QUALIFICATIONS
**** EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
**** Minimum

Required:

** One of the following:
* Graduate of a Medical Assistant program    
** OR
* ** Documented successful completion of the following courses (or their recognized course equivalent):  + Medical Terminology (from an accredited institution or completed online through Universal Class)  + Anatomy & Physiology or Body Structure & Function or Human Body in Health & Disease (from an accredited institution or online through Universal Class)  + Pharmacology (from an accredited institution)
Candidates may also qualify through at least two years of direct healthcare-related work experience in roles such as, but not limited to:
* Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
* Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
* Health Unit Coordinator (HUC)
* Emergency Department (ED) Technician
* Patient Care Assistant (PCA)
* Dental Assistant
* Home Health Aide
* Phlebotomist* Certified Medication Aide / Med Tech
* Behavioral Health Technician / Mental Health Aide
* Physical Therapy Aide / Rehabilitation Aide
* Chiropractic Assistant
* Hospice Aide
* Optometric / Ophthalmic Assistant
* Medical Assistant (including roles involving vital signs and basic patient care)
Healthcare experience should include, but is not limited to:
* Direct patient care activities (vital signs, assisting with ADLs)
* Basic clinical procedures relevant to the role
* Providing support under supervision in clinical settings

Additional qualifying experience includes higher education in healthcare-related fields such as:
* Kinesiology* Surgical Technology
* Dental Hygiene
* Nursing* Other related health sciences

Candidates with this background should demonstrate relevant clinical experience or coursework that involved patient care responsibilities comparable to those outlined above.
* Within the first 12 months of employment, candidates are expected to have completed the specified educational courses relevant to the role, which may include basic life support, patient care, infection control, or other healthcare foundational training.
