Our client is seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer to oversee critical geotechnical aspects of their mining and infrastructure projects in the Richards Bay area. You will be responsible for assessing ground conditions, designing slope stability measures, and mitigating risks associated with geological hazards. This role demands a strong understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and their application in mining environments, ensuring the safety and integrity of all operational sites.
The successful candidate will play a key role in project planning, execution, and ongoing monitoring, contributing to the successful and safe delivery of major developments.
- Conduct detailed geotechnical investigations, including site characterization and laboratory testing analysis.
- Perform stability analyses for open-pit slopes, tailings dams, and other mine structures.
- Develop design recommendations for ground support, excavation, and dewatering systems.
- Monitor ground conditions and implement remediation measures for identified risks.
- Provide expert geotechnical advice to project teams, including geologists, engineers, and construction personnel.
- Ensure compliance with relevant geotechnical design codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mining Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnics.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, particularly within the mining or heavy civil construction sectors.
- Proficiency with geotechnical software such as Slide, Geo Studio, or Rocscience packages.
- Solid understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and geological principles.
- Experience in field investigations, instrumentation, and monitoring.
- Strong report writing and communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings clearly.
