About the Role

Our client is looking for a skilled and forward-thinking Mine Planning Engineer to join their dynamic team based in Richards Bay. This critical role focuses on developing, optimizing, and implementing short-term and long-term mine plans to ensure efficient and safe resource extraction. You will work closely with geological and operations teams to translate resource models into viable mining schedules, utilizing advanced planning software.

The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical abilities, a deep understanding of mining methods, and a commitment to maximizing resource utilization while adhering to stringent safety and environmental standards, contributing significantly to the site's productivity and profitability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and update detailed short-term and long-term mine plans , considering geological data, equipment capabilities, and operational constraints.
  • Utilize mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac) to design open-pit or underground mine layouts, sequences, and schedules.
  • Conduct mineability studies and economic evaluations of potential mining areas to optimize resource recovery.
  • Collaborate with survey, geology, and operations departments to ensure accurate data integration and plan execution.
  • Monitor mining progress against the plan, identify deviations, and implement corrective actions to maintain production targets.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including mine layouts, production forecasts, and cost estimates for capital expenditure proposals.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mine planning and design, preferably in open-pit operations.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard mine planning and design software such as Deswik, Vulcan, or Surpac .
  • Solid understanding of mining methods, geomechanics, and ore reserve estimation .
  • Ability to analyze geological data and translate it into practical mine plans.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
