Geotechnical Engineer - Mining Projects

Our client requires a skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join their expanding team supporting significant mining projects near Richards Bay, Kwa Zulu-Natal . This role is essential for assessing and managing the stability of mine structures, slopes, and underground excavations. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of mining operations by providing expert geotechnical advice and solutions.

The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in soil and rock mechanics, coupled with practical experience in the mining industry, contributing to risk mitigation and operational integrity.

• Conduct geotechnical investigations, including site characterization, laboratory testing, and in-situ testing.
• Analyze the stability of open-pit slopes, underground excavations, and mine waste facilities.
• Develop and implement geotechnical monitoring programs and interpret monitoring data.
• Provide geotechnical design recommendations for mine infrastructure, such as access roads, tunnels, and tailings dams.
• Collaborate with geologists, engineers, and construction teams to ensure safe and effective project execution.

• Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering with a geotechnical specialization.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, with a strong preference for exposure to mining environments.
• Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software (e.g., Rocscience Suite, PLAXIS, Geo Studio).
• Experience with ground improvement techniques and foundation design.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent report writing capabilities.
