Structural Engineer - Heavy Industrial Construction

Our client is a prominent engineering and construction firm specializing in large-scale industrial projects. They are seeking a highly qualified Structural Engineer to contribute to significant projects in Richards Bay, Kwa Zulu-Natal. This role involves the design, analysis, and oversight of structural elements for heavy industrial facilities, including power plants, petrochemical facilities, and manufacturing plants. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of structural mechanics, material science, and relevant industry codes.

You will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety, integrity, and efficiency of complex structural systems. • Design and analyze structural components and systems for heavy industrial facilities.
• Develop detailed structural calculations, drawings, and specifications.
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., SANS, Eurocodes).
• Perform site visits to monitor construction progress and ensure adherence to design specifications.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, civil) to ensure integrated design solutions.
• Conduct structural integrity assessments and recommend modifications or repairs.
• Review contractor submittals and respond to technical queries from the construction site.
• Utilize advanced structural analysis software for modeling and simulation.
• Contribute to project planning, scheduling, and cost estimation related to structural works.
• Maintain accurate project documentation and engineering records.

• BEng or MEng in Structural Engineering or a closely related field.
• Professional Engineer (PrEng) registration with ECSA is highly preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in structural engineering, with a focus on heavy industrial construction.
• Proven experience in the design of steel and concrete structures.
• Proficiency in structural analysis software such as STAAD.Pro, SAP
  2000, or ETABS.
• Strong knowledge of material properties and their application in structural design.
• Excellent understanding of seismic design principles and international building codes.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
• Willingness to travel to project sites in and around Richards Bay.
