Research Chemist - Organic Synthesis

About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented and experienced Research Chemist with expertise in Organic Synthesis to join their innovative R&D department in Richards Bay. This role is crucial for the design, synthesis, and characterization of novel chemical compounds with potential applications in material science and specialty chemicals. You will work in a modern, well-equipped laboratory, contributing to the development pipeline from early-stage research through to process optimization.

• Design and execute multi-step synthetic routes to target organic molecules.
• Perform detailed characterization of synthesized compounds using techniques such as NMR, Mass Spectrometry, and HPLC.
• Optimize reaction conditions to improve yield, purity, and scalability of synthetic processes.
• Conduct literature reviews to identify novel synthetic methodologies and potential research directions.
• Troubleshoot synthetic challenges and develop innovative solutions to overcome them.
• Collaborate with analytical chemists and engineers to ensure product quality and process feasibility.

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in synthetic organic chemistry , preferably in an industrial setting.
• Proven ability to design and execute complex synthetic sequences.
• Proficiency with modern spectroscopic and chromatographic analytical techniques.
• Strong understanding of reaction mechanisms and stereo chemistry.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
