Overview: Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, is a leader in technologically advanced solutions for the aerospace and defense industry. The Mission Systems Integrated Strategic Solutions (ISSE) engineering team seeks a self-motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to design, develop, and integrate dynamic electro-mechanical systems and controls for military communication systems and trailing wire systems products. This is an onsite role located in Richardson, TX.

What

You Will Do
  • Communicate technical topics clearly to both technical peers and non-technical team members.
  • Design and document high-complexity mechanical and electro-mechanical hardware (e.g., gear boxes, motors, actuators, hydraulic pumps, bearings, large rotating equipment).
  • Analyze components to ensure sizing, strength, and dynamic load requirements are met throughout the product life-cycle.
  • Manage and process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) in compliance with military standards and customer requirements.
  • Address supplier-driven changes, component obsolescence, and DMSMS.
  • Perform finite element analysis (FEA) using ANSYS to meet structural integrity and fatigue criteria.
  • Conduct prototype build, integration, and testing to validate compliance to requirements.
  • Contribute to peer reviews; mentor and document knowledge to provide technical guidance within the team and beyond.
  • Collaborate with IPT to manage project scope, budget, and identify risks and opportunities.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a STEM degree and minimum 5 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree with at least 3 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of RTCA DO-160 and MIL-STD-810.
  • Experience designing and qualifying mechanical components and assemblies including sensors, motors, actuators, pulleys, gears, and pumps.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software (Solid Works, Creo, CATIA, NX, or similar) and applying best practices.
  • Proficiency with structural FEA tools (Ansys Mechanical, Abaqus).
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Active U.S. government issued Secret or Top Secret clearance.
  • Ability to quickly acquire domain knowledge and contribute to design/implementation of complex electro-mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of A-Kit design and SAE AS50881 applicability.
  • Direct experience on aircraft or ground military platforms.
  • Experience with wire/cable tensioning systems and ruggedization of commercial hardware.
  • Knowledge of relevant military standards (e.g., MIL-STD-1472, MIL-STD-461).
  • Proficiency with MATLAB and Simulink;
    Agile hardware development experience.
  • CAM and earned value management familiarity; proposal and presentation experience.
  • Experience with advanced materials/methods (composites, additive manufacturing).
  • Ability to lead a team and mentor junior engineers.
