The Department of Materials Science and Engineering
Located in the 4th largest metropolitan area in the U.S., The University of Texas at Dallas is a young, growing research institution on the cutting edge of science, technology, business, and the arts. Since its conception by Texas Instruments’ founders McDermott, Jonsson, and Green, the University’s teaching mission has continuously expanded, its external research funding has nearly doubled in recent years, and the University has established itself as a national leader in research and development of key technologies.
The Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) Department focuses on research at the cutting edge of materials, physical, and chemical sciences, and their related applications and technologies. A facility of particular relevance for the faculty positions is the $85 million landmark Natural Science and Engineering Research Laboratory (NSERL), which hosts a fully furnished clean room. The MSE Department currently has 17 full-time and joint faculty members and supports approximately 80 graduate students and offers MS and PhD degrees in Materials Science and Engineering and is expected to offer a BS in Materials Science and Engineering starting fall 2026.
Areas of research expertise include advanced micro- and nanoelectronics, artificial intelligence (AI), catalysis, sensing, biomedical devices,…
