Position Summary
Position Summary The EMS Technician – Level II is responsible for applying a solid working knowledge of the energy management and building automation industry. This role builds upon the foundational skills of an EMS Tech Level I, with additional technical and leadership responsibilities. The Level II Technician works under the direction of an EMS Tech Level III and/or Project Manager to support system installations, troubleshooting, commissioning, and customer satisfaction.
Key ResponsibilitiesCore Skills
- Identify and work with all major equipment used in automation/controls.
- Install, configure, and explain ARC 156 rules and devices.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of temperature and humidity control processes.
- Read, interpret, and apply equipment schematics effectively.
- Troubleshoot most wiring issues, including interlocks.
- Locate request sources for equipment within ALC logic.
- Address (IP) ALC routers, including LGRs, Opti-Flex, and G Series.
- Calibrate end devices such as temperature, airflow, pressure, humidity, and gas sensors.
- Understand the purpose, selection, and use of all ALC modules.
- Troubleshoot network issues using Diag
485. - Apply a working knowledge of basic mechanical piping and ducting.
- Perform system run-time and request setup in ALC logic.
- Install thermowells, pressure devices, and temperature sensors accurately.
- Wire interlocks for drives, high static limits, and dampers.
- Apply knowledge of building static and differential pressure.
- Adjust programming and graphics in small-scale field applications.
- Work with lighting panels and interlocks; assist with lighting integration checkout.
- Understand control protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and MSTP.
- Manage third-party system interfaces from start to finish.
- Interpret and follow electrical one-line diagrams.
- Assist Test & Balance teams with WebCTRL access and building balancing.
- Execute commissioning processes independently.
- Perform timely system backups, distribution, and storage.
- Support EMS Tech Level III or Project Manager with inspections and customer presentations.
- Apply PID control principles and fine-tune parameters for system optimization.
- Identify AHU types: SZ, MZ, VAV, DD, MAU, OA, ERU, FCU.
- Independently perform checkout/startup on SZAHU, DDAHU, MAU, and FCU units.
- Perform checkout/startup (with assistance) on MZAHU, VAVAHU, ERU, and OA units.
- Commission fan applications, including OA, SA, RA, EF, TEF, Garage, and Stairwell.
- Demonstrate early understanding of central plants and associated systems.
- Assist with mission-critical system checkout and commissioning.
- Begin mentoring and guiding other technicians within project crews.
- Manage multiple tasks across different projects with efficiency.
- Previous experience in Controls or Construction.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Background in HVAC or Instrumentation/Controls trades.
- Commitment to high-quality work and customer satisfaction.
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and reliability.
- Clean driving record (MVR).
