Job Title:
EMS Technician – Level I Overview
The EMS Technician – Level I is an entry-level position focused on building foundational skills in the energy management and building automation industry. This role works under the supervision of an EMS Technician – Level II and a Project Manager, following all company Installation and Commissioning Standards.
Key Responsibilities Basic Electrical & Computer Skills- Operate a multi-meter to measure ohms, volts, amps, resistance, and similar metrics.
- Understand basic electrical circuits and read electrical diagrams.
- Proficient in Windows-based software including Microsoft Word, Excel, web browsers, and email.
- Familiar with company Installation and Commissioning Standards.
- Understand ARC 156 codes and regulations.
- Accurately complete and submit timesheets on time.
- Read and interpret floor plans to identify equipment locations.
- Understand schematics, submittals, and data sheets.
- Conduct communication line inspections and pull tests.
- Troubleshoot basic wiring and termination issues.
- Navigate WebCTRL software with guidance.
- Launch and connect with all versions of ALC software.
- Perform network startups and configuration tasks.
- Complete point-to-point checkouts and use short-to-ground testing methods.
- Configure end devices and instrumentation accurately.
- Understand logic page structures and layouts.
- Apply knowledge of parent-child relationships in equipment setup.
- Work with schedules, properties, parameters, alarms, and trend data.
- Interpret thermographic floor plans and identify communication issues.
- Create as-built drawings of communication lines based on actual installation.
- Support the commissioning process with oversight.
- Use WebCTRL and commissioning tools correctly.
- Maintain detailed documentation of startup issues and equipment status.
- Report system changes, revisions, and backups to the appropriate contacts.
- Identify terminal units including VAVs, FPBs, CVBs, and DDBs.
- Identify larger systems such as RTUs, FCUs, and exhaust fans.
- Independently perform checkout and startup of terminal units.
- Assist with checkout and startup of rooftop units, fan coils, and exhaust fans.
- Communicate effectively and coordinate with team members and other trades.
- Stay focused and minimize distractions during tasks.
- Accept direction and work well under supervision.
- Show initiative in learning about company products and technologies.
- Continuously build new skills and use available learning resources.
- Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and organizational skills.
- Maintain a clean, professional appearance at all times.
