Principal Procurement Engineer – Hanford Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP)

National – Family - Salary Range: $105,060 – $182,670 annually (based on experience and qualifications)
We are designing and building a one‑of‑a‑kind facility that will safely dispose of radioactive and chemical waste from World War II and Cold War plutonium production, protecting the Columbia River and surrounding communities.
Job SummaryAs a Principal Procurement Engineer you will support the WTP Engineering CGD process, leveraging expertise in engineering, procurement, manufacturing, fabrication, and quality assurance associated with nuclear CGD.
Major Responsibilities- Develop and implement procurement strategies.
- Perform failure mode analyses on safety‑related items and equipment.
- Develop commercial‑grade dedication strategies.
- Review diverse manufacturing processes (machining, welding, heat‑treating, factory acceptance testing).
- Implement detailed quality‑assurance requirements (e.g., NQA‑1, DOE 414.1D, ISO‑9000) and applicable codes and standards (ASME Section VIII, ANSI B31.3, AWS D1.1/D1.6).
- Execute detailed technical evaluations of items (mechanical, electrical, structural, instrumentation and controls).
- Optimize procurement strategies and develop critical characteristics, acceptance criteria, and methods based on project requirements.
- Review supplier CGD programs, perform technical and quality reviews of supplier CGD documentation.
- Act as a subcontract technical representative during material and equipment testing.
- Interface with the Department of Energy.
- Partner with suppliers on CGD and supply‑chain issues to ensure success.
- Perform detailed reviews of supplier CGD programs and processes.
- Develop processes for detailed technical and quality reviews of supplier CGD quality documentation.
Level I:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science with 8–10 years of relevant experience, or 12–14 years of relevant experience.
Level II
:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science with 10–13 years of relevant experience, or 14–17 years of relevant experience and demonstrated leadership.
- Authorized to work and remain in the United States without Bechtel visa sponsorship.
- Must pass pre‑employment drug screen, physical (if at construction site), and background check.
- Must obtain a Department of Energy badge for Hanford Site access.
- Knowledge of CGD processes in NRC or DOE regulated facilities.
- Experience in nuclear equipment design, safety and hazards analysis.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Manufacturing and fabrication experience.
- NQA‑1 auditing experience.
- Demonstrated leadership experience.
- Previous Bechtel project experience.
- Previous DOD/DOE project experience.
- Familiarity with relevant engineering department procedures (EDPs), design standards, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
- Quality Assurance experience.
