Glass Technology – Furnace Operations SME (Part Time)

Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Glass Technology – Furnace Operations SME (Part Time) opportunity in Richland, WA
.

Scope of Work
  • Dry Materials Handling & Batching Systems Design and Operations to support the Assistant Manager for Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant Project (AMWTP).
  • Position Overview
    • Participate in the engineering review for design, operational assumptions, maintenance, and reliability for the Glass Former Chemical (GFC) components at WTP.
    • Advise and inform Federal staff regarding GFC design oversight and operational impacts.
    • Provide expertise in continuous glass manufacturing and share findings with Federal staff.
    • Utilize excellent writing and communication skills in all interactions.
    Minimum Qualifications
    • BS/BA degree in Ceramic Engineering. Experience of 12 years may substitute for a PhD.
    • At least 30 years of experience in Glass Technology, including raw material specifications, batch formulation, quality target definition, and furnace operations.
    • Experience researching and navigating complex federal regulations tied to environmental compliance for furnace air emissions and hazardous waste disposal.
    • Recognition as a Fellow in the American Ceramic Society, Society of Glass Technology, or similar organization.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience with continuous glass manufacturing plant operations.
    • Proven track record in batch formulation, quality target definition, furnace design, environmental compliance, and customer service related to glass properties.
    • Advanced degree or certifications in Ceramic Engineering.
    • Understanding of Hanford Site vitrification mission needs.
    • Familiarity with DOE program management practices and technology management tools.
    • Exceptional communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft 365, MS Word, and Excel.
    Other Job-Related Qualifications
    • United States Citizenship.
