Project OverviewJoin us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.
Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year‑round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50‑mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.
Job SummaryYou will be working as part of the Mechanical Handling team designing the areas of material handling equipment, treatment and vitrification systems, and/or supporting utilities. You will assist the Mechanical Systems Engineering Group Supervisor in managing discipline work process execution and assuring technical adequacy in accordance with company, contract, and industry codes and standard. You will be approving technical reports and studies and design documentation, calculations using engineering software, and specifications for complex mechanical equipment for the waste treatment process and supporting systems.
The ideal candidate will have solid experience in mechanical handling design and will be capable of developing design documents and procurement documents, including Specifications, Material Requisition s, Mechanical Handling diagrams, Mechanical Flow diagrams and equipment data sheets, that incorporate the applicable design requirements, including nuclear safety requirements. You will be interfacing and coordinating with other engineering disciplines and the client in the development of the design.
Full‑Time In Office:
This position is a full‑time role located in the Richland, Washington project office, and works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off.
- The primary role of the MH Deputy EGS is to manage discipline work process execution and assure technical adequacy in accordance with company, contract, and industry codes and standards.
- Provide direction to discipline work group consistent with project/program.
- Develop and revise Mechanical Handling design documents and Procurement Documents.
- Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team.
- Support discipline design reviews to verify that requirements and expectations for design products are met.
- Support the PEM/PE/EGS on interfaces with DOE, DNFSB, WDOH, and Ecology.
