Overview

Senior Electrical & Control Designer 2 - Government Services role at Sargent & Lundy. Our Government Services Group, one of our five market-focused business units, has opportunities for engineering professionals in our design group. This group specializes in DOE facility design, both new and retrofit designs, as well as special purpose glove boxes and the associated controls and auxiliary systems, precision furnaces, hot cells, custom pressure vessels and other one-of-a-kind equipment.

As a member of a multi-disciplined project team, this position will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your designer background and/or technical experience in Instrumentation and Controls, Automation, and Electrical Design.

• Work on project teams with other I&C designers and engineers involved in the design of new Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) based control systems, instrumentation, automation systems, communications systems, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and other industrial control system platforms
• Prepare design media for the procurement and implementation of software, instrumentation, and control system platforms
• Develop career via peer learning through S&L systems of process and associated Communities of Practice
• Utilize and expand design and drafting skills in a multi-disciplined team environment with other designers and/or engineers in the preparation of design drawings based on design input
• Apply computer-aided drafting skills in 2D and 3D design software environments
• Create drawings to scale showing relation of proposed installations to existing facilities with exact specifications and dimensions
• Accompany and assist experienced engineers and designers on walkdowns at client facilities to gather information for design projects

• Must be a U.S. Citizen;
  Dual citizenship with a country other than the U.S. does not qualify
• Associate's Degree in drafting or a high school diploma with 1+ years drafting coursework or equivalent technical experience
• 12+ years of relevant experience in drafting and design
• Proficient with AutoCAD and related software
• Experience in instrumentation, control systems, automation, electrical/controls, or similar engineered equipment in a project team environment with focus on conceptual and/or detailed system design for new facilities or upgrades
• Experience with instrumentation and controls, automation, communication systems, electrical systems, P&IDs, loop diagrams, control panel layout, elementary diagrams, wiring diagrams, cable and conduit schedules
• Experience in preparation and review of instrumentation, control system, automation systems, communication systems, or electrical design drawings
• Effective written and verbal communication skills; detail-oriented

• BIM modeling using Autodesk products (Revit) or equivalent
• Micro Station
• Navisworks
• Experience with Project Wise or Smart Plant Foundation or similar document management applications
• Basic working knowledge of I&C applicable codes and standards such as UL-508A, NFPA/NEC, ISA

Sargent & Lundy’s Government Services Division provides engineering design and consulting support to US DOE sites and national laboratories, supporting the Environmental Management Directorate and NNSA laboratories and sites.
