Position: Environmental Specialist III/Sr.

Advanced Technologies and Laboratories (ATL), a Planned Systems International (PSI) company, is hiring for an Environmental Specialist III/Sr. in Richland, WA.

Overview

This position supports the Navarro-ATL project, operating and maintaining the 222‑S Laboratory Complex for the Department of Energy. The role provides senior‑level environmental and regulatory technical support, operating under minimal supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Provide senior‑level environmental and regulatory technical support, developing regulatory analyses and program solutions for complex environmental issues.
  • Offer expertise and operational support in regulatory areas pertaining to RCRA, TSCA, CWA, CAA, or NEPA, and identify opportunities for proactive improvement through routine assessments.
  • Interpret and resolve regulatory changes and permit conditions to ensure compliance in a compliant manner.
  • Serve as organizational representative for interaction with other Hanford contractors, DOE, and regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct complex operations data collection and trending; coordinate submittal and prepare reports for the program.
  • Provide environmental services to projects and operations, supporting or leading environmental regulatory interactions.
  • Develop and conduct training, contingency plan implementation, and inspections.
  • Support procedure development; author and own program plans and other procedures within the program as applicable.
  • Ensure projects and operations achieve environmental compliance and stewardship.
  • Provide regulatory analysis and implementation strategies for new and changing regulations applicable to 222‑S Laboratory operations.
  • Attend site‑wide meetings and correspond with management, site contractors, and regulators.
  • May provide program leadership and oversight of sampling/analysis, tracking, disposal records, and lead environmental regulatory interactions.
Minimum Requirements

BA/BS degree in a related discipline and 7 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

BA/BS degree in a related discipline and 10 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Expert knowledge of air, water, and hazardous radiological waste environmental regulations, permit compliance, monitoring techniques and methodologies, and experience working with government agencies, preferably the US Department of Energy and the Washington State Departments of Ecology.
