Contract Overview

The Department of Energy (DOE) Hanford Field Office (HFO) requires general support services for the AMWTP. The contractor will provide support to the Glass Former Chemical (GFC) components at WTP.

  • Participate in the engineering review for design, operational assumptions, maintenance and reliability for the Glass Former Chemical (GFC) components at WTP.
  • Advise Federal staff on design oversight of the GFC, sharing experience on impacts to plant operations.
  • Utilize excellent writing and communication skills in all interactions.

Work products shall be thorough, accurate, appropriately documented, and comply with established criteria. The contractor will submit a weekly report to the technical monitor addressing work accomplished and deliverable progress.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education – BS/BA degree in Ceramic Engineering. In addition, an excess of twelve (12) years of experience as a substitute for Ph.D.
  • At least 30 years of experience in Glass Technology – Raw Material Specifications, Batch Formulation for desired glass chemistry, physical properties, Glass Quality target definitions, and Furnace Operations monitoring day‑to‑day plant operating data.
  • Experience researching and navigating federal regulations tied to environmental compliance for furnace air emissions (NOX, SOX & particulate) and hazardous waste disposal of refractory flue debris.
  • Recognition of professional accomplishments evidenced by appointment to Fellow status in the American Ceramic Society, Society of Glass Technology, or Glass Problems Conference Advisory Board.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with continuous glass manufacturing plant operations.
  • Proven track record in Glass Technology, Batch Formulation, Quality target definitions, Furnace Design, refractory selection, Furnace Rebuilds, Furnace Operations, environmental compliance for furnace emissions, and hazardous waste disposal.
  • Advanced degree or additional certifications in Ceramic Engineering.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Hanford Site vitrification mission needs in common glass manufacturing processes.
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Required Training and Agreements
  • The contractor shall maintain eligibility for escorted site access.
  • Weekly status report emailed to the technical monitor at the end of each week.
  • Non‑Disclosure/Conflict of Interest form signed by both the general support contractor and authorized contractor representative submitted to procurement before any work can start.
  • Identification of any conflicts with any Hanford Site contractors.
  • Compliance with site‑specific safety and security requirements, including badging and office protocols.
