Position: Tax Information Specialist 1 - Richland

Title:

Tax Information Specialist 1 (TIS1) – Richland, WA

Position overview:

The Department of Revenue's Compliance Division is looking for a customer service professional to serve taxpayers with Washington State tax laws. The role includes opening accounts, processing use tax, handling payments, filing legal documents, and providing accurate assistance.

Language requirement

Fluency in Spanish is preferred; applicants with Spanish and English skills may receive an additional 5% assignment pay.

Key Responsibilities
  • Opening accounts and issuing Unified Business Identifier numbers for new businesses, collecting application fees, and assisting with working family tax credit applications.
  • Completing Use Tax Declarations and Use Tax Returns by determining eligibility for exemptions or assessment of Use Tax.
  • Receiving, recording and accounting for payments of tax returns, tax warrants, invoices, and applications.
  • Filing legal documents with courts.
  • Providing expert customer service, prioritizing multiple situations simultaneously.
  • Becoming proficient in state tax laws to advise customers.
  • Identifying customer issues and finding logical solutions.
Required Qualifications

The required qualifications are key competencies demonstrated through experience or education:
Written Communication, Verbal Communication, Research, Analysis, Problem Solving, Interpersonal Skills, Planning and Organization, Technology and Applications, Fiscal Accountability.

  • Consistently follows standardized language rules.
  • Communicates clearly, directly, and succinctly.
  • Analyzes complex business activities applying rules and laws.
  • Listens calmly, clarifies problems, and responds with solutions.
  • Organizes and prioritizes work.
  • Inputs and updates data using word processing, databases, spreadsheets.
  • Handles cash with care and follows internal controls.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Spanish bilingual ability.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field with one year of professional experience in tax administration, auditing, or collection.
  • Three years as a Tax Service Representative.
