Retail Associate/ Customer Service, Customer Service Rep
Assist management with the operations of the store by performing clerk duties in the designated grocery or freight department, leading by example, and assisting the department manager as directed. Answer customer questions and complaints in a professional manner to ensure fast, friendly service. Perform the duties of a grocery clerk, cashier and/or freight stocker in addition to assisting assigned employees in the performance of their tasks.
TypicalDuties and Responsibilities
- Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers.
- Provide customer service by performing the duties of a clerk in the designated department.
- Perform a lead role in customer service which may include handling customer complaints, approving checks, selling gift certificates, issuing refunds, receiving returned check payments and answering any questions a customer must have.
- Continuously monitor area activities, including customer traffic flow and coverage of checkout lanes.
- Maintain cleanliness and eye appeal of work area, storage area, equipment and retail displays according to company policy and legal regulations; clean work area by mopping, sweeping and taking out garbage.
- Ensure the department or area of responsibility is kept clear of excess carts, baskets and garbage.
- Monitor arrivals, breaks, lunches and departures of employees in area of responsibility and communicate with immediate supervisor regularly.
- Assist immediate supervisor as needed or directed.
- Assist clerks by providing direction and leadership, demonstrating and performing clerk responsibilities and assigned tasks, and answering employee questions.
- Monitor cashier money handling procedures and assist with scan system procedures (UPC codes not on file, scan pricing errors, etc.).
- Fill department racks, shelves, displays, coolers, handle and use cleaning materials, department machines and equipment, pull cardboard and face the wall and aisles, perform cashiering duties and other duties as needed or directed.
- Maintain a constant awareness of customer and employee safety.
- Stock and rotate merchandise in any area of the store as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Leadership skills and the ability to address difficult and angry individuals professionally.
- Knowledge of overall company practices, policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated initiative and self‑direction to multitask efficiently.
- Experience in visual inspections, reading reports, and using computer systems.
- Basic math skills and ability to compute weights and measures.
- Perform primary duties efficiently and accurately with honesty and integrity.
- Consistently provide world‑class customer service to internal and external customers.
- Work varied shifts in 24/7 operation, including night, weekends and holidays.
- Perform all duties described in the grocery clerk, cashier and/or freight stocker job descriptions.
- Understand overall company practices through previous experience in the designated department.
- Use cleaning chemicals in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines and instructions.
- Handle food products per state and county laws and Win Co standards.
- Reach, lift and maneuver objects up to 50 lbs. frequently.
- Stand for long periods, walk and move rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently.
- Perform duties with mental alertness involving potential hazards with related procedures, machines and equipment.
- Understand state & federal regulations if certification is needed.
- Perform primary duties efficiently and accurately.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Food Handlers Certification (per state laws).
