Overview

Advanced Technologies and Laboratories (ATL), a Planned Systems International (PSI) company, is hiring for an Analytical Project Manager in Richland, WA.

This position will support Navarro-ATL. Navarro-ATL is located in Richland, WA and operates, manages, and maintains the 222-S Laboratory Complex for the Department of Energy. Navarro-ATL members are Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc. (Oak Ridge, TN), and Advanced Technologies and Laboratories International (Gaithersburg, MD).

Job Responsibilities

Analytical Project Managers are responsible for effectively managing analytical projects from initiation through closeout to meet or exceed customer needs/requirements. The ideal candidate will perform a variety of duties including, but not limited to, supporting clients with project work requests to ensure they are consistent with laboratory capabilities, performing technical reviews of analytical results from radiochemistry, inorganic, and organic analyses, authoring technical laboratory reports, and serving as the customer's point of contact for questions about sample analysis requirements for assigned projects.

Project managers monitor the status of their projects and ensure the quality and timelines of all deliverables.

  • Assume technical responsibility for analytical projects. Cooperate with other project managers performing related phases of the technical work. Be cognizant of the work performed in other analytical projects.
  • Collaborate with Chemists and utilize previous experience to develop a solid understanding of the analytical processes and procedures performed at the 222-S Laboratory.
  • Review analytical data for completeness and technical validity; interact with chemists to resolve data review questions; author project reports; and assist in sample management.
  • Coordinate analyses of customer samples, including monitoring of quality requirements, to meet project deliverables.
  • Prepare informational packages describing analytical work scope and distribute them to analytical work groups.
  • Prepare and give kick-off project presentations to analytical operations staff for assigned projects.
  • Oversee the coordination of sample shipments to off-site laboratories.
  • Track samples through the analytical process at the laboratory, including final disposition.
  • Coordinate proper electronic storage of data deliverables in the project file and oversee the upload of electronic deliverables to the customer's data.
  • Coordinate disposition of samples using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and interface with sample custodians for sample disposal activities at the end of the analytical project cycle.
  • Contact customers to arrange sample returns, as needed.
  • Proactively serve customers by ensuring project due dates, schedule, and quality commitments are met.
  • Function as technical authority for administrative and/or technical procedures, as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Requirements
  • BS in Chemistry or another scientific discipline and 7 years of related experience.
  • Strong knowledge of organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and radiochemistry along with significant applicable lab experience.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and client‑relationship skills.
  • Experience with writing technical reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Commitment to analytical excellence and unwavering ethics.
  • Ability to collaborate with a high‑performing work team and support other projects upon short notice.
  • Strong attention to detail and customer service skills that focus on quality, schedule, and compliance with technical requirements.
Desired Qualifications
  • BS in Chemistry and 10 years of laboratory experience.
  • Several years of experience as an organic chemist with analytical data processing and technical data review responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated scientific communication skills, knowledge of laboratory operations, and quality‑assurance practices.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, particularly Word and Excel.
