Software Engineer, Data Science Manager
Overview
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) hosts multiple research directorates focused on national security, earth and biological sciences, physical and computational sciences, and energy and environment. The AI and Data Analytics Division (AIDA), a part of the National Security Directorate, develops computational solutions that transform research data into scalable, high‑impact products.
Responsibilities- Identify mission challenges and systematically design test solutions.
- Demonstrate software quality and test excellence, delivering high‑quality results at scale.
- Collaborate with data scientists and software engineers to transform research into fully scalable solutions.
- Apply strong test‑engineering principles and innovative problem‑solving skills to complex technical challenges.
- Stay current on advancements in test strategies and technologies across broad engineering domains (AI, API, Data Engineering, Cloud Computing, etc.).
- Take initiative in setting personal goals and driving professional growth.
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and collaborate successfully in a team environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS/BA or higher.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field.
- 1+ years of experience in Python/C++/C# or other software development/test, ideally with data, APIs, microservices, or Cloud Computing.
- Demonstrated experience applying software engineering, test engineering, and data management best practices through successfully delivered projects.
- Hands‑on experience with machine learning pipelines or related test strategies.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Active security clearance.
Applicants must obtain and maintain a federal security clearance. The position requires pre‑employment and random drug testing for illegal drugs, including marijuana. U.S. citizenship is required.
