Camp Director - Behaviour Support
Position Summary Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Camp Director - Behaviour Support will travel between Richmond Hill summer camp locations to provide behaviour supports and strategies for campers. Duties include responding to and de‑escalating urgent behaviour situations; providing resources to staff for program modifications; supporting campers and families; and ensuring effective communication systems.
Key Dates- Camp Training:
June 4 – 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm - June 10 – 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm
- June 20 – 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
- June 25 – 8:30 am – 12:00 pm
- Successful applicants may be notified of additional training.
* Times are tentative and will be confirmed in the Employment Offer.*
Camp Dates- June 29 – August 28, 2026 (or September 4, 2026 if at Elgin West CC)
- Respond to urgent camper behaviour situations and lead de‑escalation.
- Provide strategies and resources for campers with challenging behaviours.
- Work with families to gather information and accommodate their child’s needs.
- Collaborate with Camp Directors and Camp Supervisors to adapt programming.
- Assist with communication with staff and parents/guardians.
- Visit and interact with campers, inclusion staff, and camp staff regularly.
- Provide coverage for inclusion camp staff breaks and self‑care needs.
- Complete necessary incident and risk management forms accurately and timely.
- Represent the City of Richmond Hill professionally and uphold community standards.
- Maintain excellent public relations with staff and the public.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma.
- Minimum six months related experience.
- Education in Therapeutic Recreation, Social Work, Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Worker, or equivalent considered an asset.
- Standard First Aid and CPR C Certification.
- Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training preferred.
- High Five PHCD Certification.
- Team player with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines in a multitask environment.
- May need to complete Lifesaving Society Swim to survive Standard.
- Leadership, written and verbal communication skills.
- Background knowledge on disabilities and behaviour management strategies.
- Prompt response to urgent or challenging behaviours.
- Problem‑solving and sound judgment.
- Computer skills – Microsoft Word, Excel, internet research.
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence and reliable vehicle with proof of insurance.
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check required.
- Demonstrated commitment to personal growth and positive workplace culture.
